Mission Statement
Ridge Community Preschool ‘s mission is to provide an atmosphere that will
impact young lives with God’s love, while guiding their growth physically,
emotionally, socially, mentally and spiritually in preparation for kindergarten.
Objectives
Ridge Community Preschool will provide children with a safe and
encouraging learning environment while providing age appropriate hands-on
learning, and opportunities for communication, socialization and confidence-
building.
Philosophy
Children learn best in a child-centered program, where activities are
designed to meet the needs of both individual children and groups of
children.
OUR DAY INCLUDES
Circle & Gathering Time:
introduces your child to sounds, letter of the week, calendar, numbers, counting, bulletin board,
discussion, music and finger plays. During this time stories, sharing and singing are also done.
Arts & Crafts:
Preplanned projects each day that are often open ended, but sometimes can be teacher directed.
Various art materials are always available to enhance the child’s creativity.
Fine Motor Skills:
Those skills related to small muscles of the body, typically hands and fingers: activities such as
cutting with scissors, using crayons, markers, pencils, and chalk help to promote these skills.
Gross Motor Skills:
Those skills related to the large muscles of the body, typically arms, legs, and torso, i.e., running,
jumping, obstacle courses, etc. We use the church’s large activity center on a regular basis for
good old-fashioned play.
Child Initiated Centers:
Math and Manipulatives- matching, number bears, puzzles, etc.
Dramatic Play/Housekeeping: dress-up, restaurant, post office, Veterinary, office, etc.
Blocks and Building- Helps build positional and basic concepts: behind, underneath, next to,
and above and below.
Sensory Exploration- water table, sand, snow, oats, beans, pasta
Writing Center- to build pre-literacy skills: the ability to recognize and name letters, understanding
how o grasp a pencil and the ability to match letters.
Library Time: Children are encouraged to look at books and relax while learning library
etiquette. They learn the proper way to treat/take care of books, learning
front to back, and how hushed tones are used in a library.
Book Bag Library: Our book bag library is an Early Literacy Program to helps to develop the love
and enjoyment of reading at a young age. Children will be allowed to check
out a book bag each week.
